Economic and Social Development in Post-Independence Jamaica and Barbados Essay Example for Free

Monetary and Social Development in Post-Independence Jamaica and Barbados Essay Jamaica and Barbados have socially and monetarily progressed since their freedoms. Every nation has had the option to financially continue itself without the help of Britain, which used to administer the two as domains. Be that as it may, in spite of the two countries’ self-guideline and dependence, both of the countries are very poor, and are viewed as underdeveloped nations. Jamaican and Barbadian History Both of the two countries were initially colonized by Great Britain (in the wake of being found by the Spanish) under the mercantilism strategy, which supported European colonization of different regions. This was on the grounds that the strategy indicated that a nation’s thriving could be controlled by its sufficiency in exchange, and fares were unmistakably more significant than imports under the arrangement. So European countries that couldn't deliver specific items all alone would colonize different zones that could, so they could utilize the merchandise, and fare them to different countries that didn't have the way to gain those specific products all alone. Such huge numbers of the Caribbean islands that Britain colonized were misused in light of their warm atmospheres, which permitted them to develop certain yields, for example, sugar. This yield was one of the principle reasons that Britain had colonized such domains as Jamaica and Barbados. Jamaica’s Independence and its Economic Enterprises Thereafter It was in 1962 that the United Kingdom’s parliament allowed Jamaica its freedom, after which the country stopped to be managed by its European organizer. After its freedom, the Jamaican government emerged, and started supporting work openings, however numerous occupations emerged in the private division. Sugar and bananas were the first yields developed in Jamaica, and sent out to areas around the world, and the development of these harvests fills in as a significant wellspring of work on the island. The nation’s tropical atmosphere makes it an appropriate area for the developing of these yields, which can't be developed in the United States or Europe, so a portion of the sugar and bananas in those regions originate from Jamaica. Jamaican Exports and Recent Economic Problems Jamaica additionally has a characteristic gracefully of bauxite, which is a wellspring of aluminum metal, and is consequently an important item, which utilizes numerous individuals as excavators. Be that as it may, as of late, the financial status of the island has been declining. Times of troublesome climate have prompted a sharp abatement in the creation of sugar stick and bananas in the course of the most recent decade, and expansion has been tormenting the island. The ongoing absence of positive agrarian movement has been extraordinary to the point that the country has been compelled to import items that, if conditions were better, Jamaica could deliver itself. Be that as it may, of late, espresso has been another gainful yield that can be developed around the island’s blue mountains territory, when sugar and bananas can't, and it fills in as an essential fare, and wellspring of national salary. Different Industries in Jamaica additionally has an industry worried about the raising of household creatures, and a dairy industry. Be that as it may, that has additionally been declining, and the country has really been bringing in milk, spread, and cheddar from somewhere else. Other littler money harvests of the island incorporate citrus organic products, for example, oranges, and cocoa, however the businesses worried about those yields are extensively littler than that of the sugar segment. Mining utilizes few residents, as does angling, and foresting, as lumberjacks can send out timber to nations that don't approach the equivalent tropical woods. Likewise in Jamaica is the assembling business, which ordinarily represents just shy of 20% of the nation’s GDP every year. The travel industry has likewise end up being a beneficial market for the country, and it fills in as a social and financial lift for the country, yet since the turn of the century, the travel industry has been more slow in Jamaica. Barbados’ Independence and Its Trade History Barbados accomplished its autonomy from the United Kingdom in 1966, after which the country started administering and controlling itself. Since that time, sugar stick has end up being the best commitment to the nation’s business, and it fills in as Barbados’ most huge fare. In 1961, five years before the country’s autonomy from incredible Britain, Barbados opened the Deep Water Harbor port, situated in Bridgetown, which fills in as the nation’s principle port, and permits enormous holder boats and tankers to trade sugar and fabricated items Barbados’ Manufacturing Sector Although sugar was for quite a while the primary wellspring of pay for the country, as of late, assembling and the travel industry has been expanding in Barbados. The assembling area started during the 1980s, and kept on being a gainful interest in the nation into the 1990s, as specific organizations misused the nation’s modest work to get a good deal on assembling in the United States and Europe. The United States has end up being the primary exchange accomplice of Barbados, which likewise depends on specific imports from the United States. â€Å"The United States remained Barbados driving exchange accomplice 1987 with exchanges esteemed at $189 million ($128 million in U. S. trades and $61 million in U. S. imports),† an article for Business America, entitled Barbados: economy depends on U. S. for items, venture Business Outlook Abroad revealed of the exchange status 1988. â€Å"Moreover, Barbados kept on inviting American interest in basically all parts of the economy. Notwithstanding immediate financial specialists, as of late Barbados has pulled in a sizable number of American hostage safety net providers, universal business organizations, and remote deals partnerships to a great extent through a reciprocal twofold tax assessment understanding. This implies at a prior time, the economy of the country was settled by remote speculations, and fares that served to save exchange relations between the United States and Barbados. Exchange Alliances and Foreign Investments And with Barbados’ great terms with the United States came the travel industry. American, Canadian, and European voyagers give the country a steady the travel industry that fills in as a primary wellspring of salary on the country. Remote premiums in the country that prompted the travel industry was to some degree an atypical occasion for a Caribbean nation, as most countries in the zone have not had the option to profit by the business, or draw in outside financial specialists in its business sectors as Barbados did. Significant the travel industry ventures, for example, resorts and voyage experiences keep on profiting the nation’s the travel industry, and fulfilled vacationers keep the business alive. Bureaucratic and Private Programs in Barbados Recently, government-managed adventures in the country have been transforming into privatized partnerships. The legislature of the country isn't happy with the high joblessness rate, so it is attempting to urge independent companies to frame, and settle themselves, since this should prompt the production of occupations. In any case, of late, broadly supported projects, for example, seaward financial endeavors, and outside trade balance by Barbados have end up being powerful methods of winning the country capital. Most assembling and sugar stick creation, nonetheless, is done in the private segment, and isn't governmentally controlled. This permits private ventures and ranchers to have solid job, and the consistent creation of yields permits the country to send out the harvests, however use them itself, which diminishes Barbados’ dependence on imports from different countries. Both Jamaica and Barbados have had the option to keep up themselves somewhat, financially and socially since their freedoms from Britain. The advancement of Jamaica, in any case, was substantially more run of the mill for a West Indian country than was the improvement of Barbados, since Jamaica couldn't draw outside speculators and build up especially organized exchange designs as was Barbados. In this perspective, Barbados was considerably more effective than were most West Indian countries, as it had the option to keep up sends out in any event, when monetary occasions were troublesome. The Jamaican economy has been encountering a larger number of issues than that of Barbados, and swelling in Jamaica is causing difficult issues. Barbados, be that as it may, in contrast to most Caribbean countries, has had the option to bounce back, and it has a high pace of the travel industry, which gives the country a consistent pace of remote pay.

It encompasses two characters, both very skilled at their ‘craft’ and superbly portrays the scramble for industrialization in this time. It follows the lives of Daniel H. Burnham, the fair’s splendid chief of works and the manufacturer of a large number of the country’s most significant structures, and Henry H. Holmes, a sequential executioner who fabricated a lodging turned dungeon complete with a dismemberment table, gas chamber, and crematorium. This story is so fascinating in light of the fact that it subtleties genuine life occasions and uses genuine characters, for example, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Edison, and Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The consequence of their difficult work finished in a wonderful even that brought right around 40 million individuals to the city of Chicago and changed the shoreline of Chicago until the end of time. A couple of miles away, in the suburb of Englewood, an alternate sort of story was unfurling. Dr. H. H. Holmes had constructed a motel turned dungeon on one full city square. New Study Shows Why People Unfollow Updated On 08/06/2018 Author : M.Tara Topic : Twitter Short URL : http://hbb.me/12JJQxJ CONNECT WITH HBB ON SOCIAL MEDIA Follow @HellBoundBlog Twitter, as we all know, is highly popular among bloggers and considered to be one of the major traffic sources for their blogs. There are some things to be considered if you wish to use Twitter in a long run. According to a recent study on why Twitter users most often stop following various accounts on Twitter, it is because they have found that the majority of the time the content of that accounts feed to be too repetitive. The Social Break-up Let me say that again: those who repeat themselves on Twitter risk getting unfollowed! This study, a piece titled The Social Break-Up by ExactTarget and cotweet, examined causes behind Twitter users decisions to unfollow certain brands and other accounts. Although Twitter users are some of the most loyal social networkers, they are quick to unfollow accounts that displease them. The Social Break-Up shows that the most commonly cited reason for unfollowing an account is because the content became repetitive or boring over time. Over 52% of the Twitter users the report studied gave that as the number one reason regarding why they unfollowed a brand on Twitter. If youre interested in learning more about Twitter and unfollowing, read the full report, as it has information regarding emails, Facebook, and more! The entire report is helpful for bloggers who wish to promote their brand; however, Id like to focus on what this report means for bloggers who use Twitter. Basically, this confirms the idea that bloggers should avoid using Twitter as simply a way to provide an RSS feed for when they update their blog with new posts. Sure, through widgets that automatically Tweet the titles of your posts when they are published, you can keep your followers informed of your blogs activity, but while the content on the blog changes, the content of the Twitter feed does not really change at all. Yes, the words in these Tweets change with each new post title, but its the same repeated type of content: an announcement that you have a new blog post! .IRPP_button , .IRPP_button .postImageUrl , .IRPP_button .centered-text-area { min-height: 86px; position: relative; } .IRPP_button , .IRPP_button:hover , .IRPP_button:visited , .IRPP_button:active { border:0!important; } .IRPP_button { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #3498DB; } .IRPP_button:active , .IRPP_button:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .IRPP_button .postImageUrl { background-position: center; background-size: cover; float: right; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 30%; } .IRPP_button .centered-text-area { float: left; width: 70%; padding:0; margin:0; } .IRPP_button .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; letter-spacing: .125em; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .IRPP_button .postTitle { color: #ECF0F1; font-size: 16px; fon t-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .IRPP_button .ctaButton { background: #ECF0F1; color: inherit; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; margin: 18px 14px 18px 14px; moz-border-radius: 3px; padding: 12px 0; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; webkit-border-radius: 3px; width: 80px; position: absolute; } .IRPP_button:hover .ctaButton { background: #e6e6e6; } .IRPP_button .centered-text { display: table; height: 86px; padding:0; margin:0; padding-left: 108px!important; top: 0; } .IRPP_button .IRPP_button-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 10px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .IRPP_button:after { content: "; display: block; clear: both; } READ5 More Simple Tips To Increase Twitter FollowersConclusion The report concludes with a quotation by a subject of the survey, Amanda, 31, Louisville, KY, who says, I think each channel should be customized for that group of people, so that each group feels important. That way, a consumer can follow on Twitter, Facebook, and by email and not be overloaded with the same information. So, basically, if you are a blogger who uses Twitter, you have to understand your fellow Twitter users before you can start connecting with them. What do they use Twitter for? How do they use it? Its clearly a much different channel than your blog or your Facebook account, so how can you best link them up to use each channel to your advantage? Your best bet is to be an active Twitter user who also has a blog. Does that make sense? In other words, present yourself to the Twitterverse as an energized Twitter user who can contribute to the world of Twitter. Then, once you show yourself to be a very effective Twitter user, you can count on that reputation leading other Twitter uses to cross channels and visit your own blog. The Ethical Issue Of Physician Assisted Suicide - 1580 Words

In Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle establishes that â€Å"every art and every inquiry, and similarly every action and pursuit, is thought to aim at some good and for this reason the good has rightly been declared to be that at which all things aim† and explains this through the dialectic of disposition, particularly between vice and virtue. In chapter four, Aristotle affirms that since â€Å"all knowledge and every pursuit aims at some good†, we inherently seek the highest form which is known to both the masses and the educated as happiness through both living and acting well . Thus regardless of whether man is inherently evil or good, we aspire for the highest form of happiness. Through the implications and discourse of vice and virtue, this paper explores the relevance of Aristotle’s moral philosophy in modern day and will be applied to the contemporary ethical issue surrounding physician assisted suicide. By exploring Aristotle’s work through primary and secondary sources, this paper will discuss the greater good and happiness as it relates to not only the patient or physician, but as a member of a greater social circle and that of society because to Aristotle the role of the individual is less important than their social obligations and role. This paper aims to use the rationale of natural law and of Aristotle to explore the prospects of physician assisted suicide as for the greater good and as a modern ethical obligation. The Ama Code Of Ethics Universal Health Care Access

On the AMA Code of Ethics: Universal Health Care Access The American Medical Association (AMA) published a Code of Ethics for Physicians that includes a list of certain principles physicians should follow in order to be good physicians, practicing in an ethical fashion. This list, which was first adopted in June of 1957 and revised as recently as June of 2001, demonstrates some principles that are not universally accepted to be critical to the ethical practice of a physician. In particular, all physicians do not completely believe the claim that â€Å"A physician shall support access to medical care for all people† (Principles of Medical Ethics). Theorist, H. Tristam Engelhardt believes that the lack of access to care for some may be unfortunate, but it is not unfair and that this access does not need to be mandated, nor does believing it should be make you an ethical physician. In fact, Engelhardt supremely believes that by providing access of care to all, you will hurt certain patients that already have access to care, negating y our function as a physician practicing beneficence. Engelhardt would retract this statement from the Principles of Ethics. However, this belief of and drive to implement access of care to all is critical to one’s job as a physician and it goes against core values of physicians to claim otherwise. Substance Addiction and Treatment †Free Samples to Students

Question: Discuss about the Substance Addiction and Treatment. Answer: Introduction: Generally, people think that only young adults and teens are affected by drug and alcohol abuse, however, it is not true as many elders are also suffering from the problems related to drugs and alcohol. Irrespective of countries, the numbers of older adults with the problem of substance abuse are getting higher day after day. The elder adults may be addicted to illicit drugs or may use the prescribed medicine in a wrong way such as consuming it after mixing it with alcohol (Herie et al, 2013). To counsel the addicted elders, the counselor has to first identify the exact problem to bring the individual to normal life. The counselor uses the few standardized tools available to screen the problems related to misusing of prescribed medicine. The second step of screening the patient is to do a proper assessment to determine the steps the counselor is going to take to properly treat the patient. While doing the assessment for older adults, the counselor has to consider the following criteria- mobility, diet, losses, mental health, capacity, physical health, social support, alcohol, literacy, speech, culture and any kind of abuse to make the whole process of counseling as appropriate as possible (Herie et al, 2013). The third step the counselor has to take is the treatment. The process of treatment is the same for the older adults and the younger people (Kuerbis et al., 2014). The treatments for substance abuse include medicines, counseling, and detoxification. In the case of medicine abuse, the doctor or the counselor can start their treatment by letting the patient know about the bad effect of the medicine and by organizing the intake of all the medicines. The doctor or the counselor also has to determine the severity of the problem by classifying them into some distinct groups. Some of the late onset patients can also show the withdrawal symptoms during the treatment. The doctor has to treat the patients with the withdrawal symptoms accordingly. The treatment of the problem for the people of different stages of addiction is different. The counselor has to consider all these criteria while treating them. The counselor should consider the age and the special needs of the patient during the treatment. References: Herie, M., Skinner, W. J. W., Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. What Polypropylene Plastics Are and How Theyre Used

What Polypropylene Plastics Are and How They're Used The world of plastic is not a cut and dried one. There are around 45 different types of plastic and each one has its own properties and uses, from commercial to residential. Polypropylene is one type of plastic that is used for a number of different products, due to its wide variety of properties. Understanding the chemical properties, history and advantages of this plastic can allow you to see the importance that this type of plastic has on your everyday life. What are the chemical properties of this plastic? Chemical Properties of Polypropylene Polypropylene is located between low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) on the crystallinity level. It is flexible and tough, especially when it is copolymerized with ethylene. This copolymerization allows this plastic to be used as engineering plastic that is in a number of different products and uses. The flow rate is a measure of molecular weight and this determines how easily it will flow during processing. A higher MFR allows the polypropylene to fill the mold more easily. As the melt flow increases, some of the physical properties of the plastic decreases, however, such as impact strength. History of Polypropylene German chemist, Karl Rehn, and Giulio Natta first polymerized propylene to a crystalline isotatic polymer in March 1954. This discovery soon led to a commercial production of polypropylene starting in 1957. Others claimed the discovery, as often occurs when a general body of knowledge is used, and this litigation was not resolved until 1989. This very popular plastic is one that many different manufacturers use for a number of different products. What Is Polypropylene Used For? Polypropylene is used for a wide number of different products. Due to the resistance to fatigue, this means that it can be used on items that are going to have high stress, such as hinge mechanisms on water bottles and more. It is also used in manufacturing piping systems, as well as chairs, and in medical or laboratory use. The colorfastness means that it is also used in carpeting, rugs, and mats. Ropes, cable insulation, roofing membranes, storage boxes, disposable bottles, plastic pails and other items are also made using this type of plastic. When you consider the impact of this plastic on your everyday use, you will see that it is one plastic that most people just cannot live without. PP plastics are also used in fiber reinforced composites. Common trade names for FRP glass fiber reinforced polyproplyene include Polystrand and Twintex. Polypropylene Advantages Polypropylene offers many different advantages. These advantages allow it to be used for a wide variety of different products and uses, from high heat to cold weather and more. What are some of these advantages? -Low cost makes it budget friendly for a wide number of uses -Has a moderate strength and stability -Has flexibility, which makes it easy to mold into different shapes -Colorfast, which means that any colors will stay bright and beautiful -Resistant to fatigue, which allows it to be used for things such as water bottle hinges and spouts -Offers good insulation for pipes, cables, and more -Chemically resistant to most oils and solvents -Excellent impact strength -Low coefficient of friction -Excellence moisture resistance -High temperature resistance, which means it can be used in laboratories When you look at polypropylene, you can see that it has many different properties that explain its widespread use. From clothing to pipes to carpet and more, this type of plastic is one that is used in a number of different products. Understanding its importance will allow you to appreciate it to the fullest. Polypropylene is one plastic that can be used for products now and can be recycled into products for the future as well.

The Hughes H-1 racer Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Hughes H-1 racer - Essay Example Hughes, Jr.1 In 1934, Hughes formed the Hughes Aircraft Co., a division of the Hughes Tool Company. Their mission was to build the best racing planes in the world. Hughes Aircraft did just that when it built its first internally designed airplane in 1934: the H-1 racer. Howard Hughes, along with Richard Palmer and a small team of engineers, designed the H-1 racer and Glenn Odekirk, together with his team, built it.2 The wood and metal single-seat monoplane was streamlining at its very best, designed for speed, pure and simple. Designing, building, and extensively testing the plane took the team 18 months but it was well worth the effort. On September 13, 1935, Hughes himself piloted the H-1 to a record-breaking 352 miles per hour at Martin Field, near Santa Ana, California. The previous record was 314 miles per hour. The H-1 was not only the fastest plane, but it was the fastest plane that could fly from standard runways, had practical flight characteristics, and had an almost unimaginable range of nearly 4000 miles (Parker, 2002). The H-1 had two sets of wings. The wings Hughes used to break the landplane speed record were of a low aspect ratio and shorter than those which he used for high-altitude transcontinental flight. The former was originally intended only for short flights at low altitudes; in the latter, Hughes set a new transcontinental record on January 18, 1937 for long-distance, high altitude flights when he recorded an average speed of 332 miles per hour over a course of 2,490 miles.3 The H-1 was powered by a Pratt and Whitney Twin Wasp Junior radial piston engine rated at 700 horsepower at 8,500 feet but which could deliver 1,000 horsepower for high-speed flight. According to Hughes (as cited in Michel, n.d.), â€Å"the H-1 racer was fast because it was clean and yet it attained its speed with a Pratt and Whitney engine of perfectly

Poverty and pollution Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Poverty and pollution - Case Study Example Ethical implications of businesses polluting in a third world country The world is ever concerned about the impact of business on the environment. A firm dealing with manufacturing operations must put into considerations how they operate. All business enterprises are not only responsible for ensuring sufficient ecological safety precautions, but are also liable for faults under their watch (Have & Henk, 2006). Doing business in a third world country requires a consideration that most nations do not have standards for environmental safety. In the current social and political climate, firms associated with polluting the environment in third world countries may face severe consequences especially in the American media. Everyone hates being associated with dumping chemicals into a water source and thus a company should consider integrity and ethics in running its business. Business ventures have an obligation to avoid damaging the surroundings in ways that affect human life in a negative way. In most cases, exocentric and anthropocentric interests overlap. For instance, water, air, and toxic waste pollution, release of fluorocarbons, and excessive carbon dioxide equally affect humans and environmental collections. When businesses are found guilty for polluting a certain environment in a third world nation, a number of corrective measures may be open to them. For example, they may be required to restore a stream, which is a costly procedure, or they may compensate a community for living near a polluted stream. This may be less costly. Businesses polluting in a third word country should be automatically bound to environmental regulations required by the nation’s law. If companies fail to respond appropriately, they may seem uncaring and arrogant, which harms both their reputation and human life (Callan &Thomas, 2007). Reasons why a business may conduct operations in a third world country and disregard any standards of pollution control Operating a business in a third world country may mean that the poor citizens pay the price of pollution caused by the operations of the business. The health-impairing pollution costs depend on the revenues relinquished from more injuries and deaths. The economic rationale behind polluting in a third world and ignoring the pollution control standards may be viewed by such companies as flawless. Another reason is that, pollution increases with disproportionate pollution costs. Everyone values a tidy environment when their incomes increase. If it balances with other needs, costs of pollution in developing countries fall. A business may disregard the pollution control measures to eliminate the restrictions that protect the citizens of that country in order to increase protection for business interests. Standards of commerce for health, environmental, or other social welfare may be strictly challenged or limited. By ignoring the right to condition investment on certain pollution control standards like redlinin g neighborhoods, a country may damage the control or power that it had to a certain business behavior, and thus allowing it to continue with its operations no matter the consequences. After all, imposing public social and environmental costs like toxic dumping is a way for firms to boost their profits. Consumers, communities, and workers in a third world country lose; short-term gains soar and complex ventures â€Å"wins.† Pollution is the price for progress Since environmental policies often involve trade-offs, there should be a balance between cots and profits. The greatest cause of depression in many countries is poverty. It is only by economic development that people can be lifted out of poverty. However, if economic growth signifies progress, then logical environmental policies are necessary for lasting economic growth, or at least environmental protection and progress are compatible. Environmental pollution can limit economic growth and the health impacts of pollution i n a nation’

The Letter From A Birmingham Jail | Analysis

The Letter From A Birmingham Jail | Analysis Beyond the story of how this famous letter was written, its importance consisted in the defense that makes Martin Luther King of this movement of non-violence and civil resistance, as well as the defense of the methods used by the African American culture against actions of segregationist maintained for centuries by the white community who inhabited the southern of United States. This letter is in itself, the summary of the movement against racism and part of the struggle of a great movement in the United States in favor of civil rights that developed in the early 60s. In this letter, Martin Luther King is trying to convince a large majority of people that segregation has a negative impact on the community and trying to report the racial difference that African Americans are suffering in the United States. For this purpose, Martin Luther King Jr mainly uses logic and emotion to describe the agony of African-American people who have to live in a racist society. Throughout the letter h e showed eloquence and knowledge of the issues of the colored people. Martin Luther King mainly uses the logic and the emotion in his letter, but he also makes use of ethics to illustrate some problems of that society. Through the use of these resources he was able to explain to the world the segregation that African American people were living at that time. The letter especially tries to be focused on the themes related to the segregation of the Afro-American population taking critical points such as the phases of the not violent action, the need of the peaceful provocation, the response to the accusations of extremism, the Churchs attitude toward social injustices. Martin Luther King used Jr. prose full of logic and extremely powerful examples to convey a basic message that injustice cannot succeed if those who fight for justice are willing to suffer for defending it. He sets an example that justice is only for the benefit of some, and when it comes over a colored person there is no justice. Their arguments are at the same academic level, social and religious that the majority of their opponents. It is due to the low or zero response from the authorities and the community in general that the Civil Rights Movement decides to launch a campaign of direct action, which it was based on implementing different forms of peaceful demonstration such as economic boycott, and sit-ins in those establishments in which segregationist actions were held against the Afro-American. These forms of expression intended to create a state of tension without resort to violence. For Martin Luther King, the negotiation is definitely the key concept of peaceful civil resistance and to reach this place, it is necessary as a last resort the direct action. In Birmingham, the economic boycott against traders responded to the use of the last recourse used by Martin Luther King to fight against racial signs that were displayed by the white community in their establishments. Despite segregation was prohibited the reality under the acts for African Americans was very different. This kind of social discrimination was completely internalized in the white community; manifested in all possible forms and types within the daily lives of Americans southern towns. The African American community was tired of waiting to justice and double standards for the a pplication of the law, which is a conscious act of the last 340 years of the history of the African American community this allowed them to require proper use and application of the law, but it also allowed them to break the laws that are unfair; an unjust law is no such law as written on this letter by Martin Luther King paraphrasing St. Thomas Aquinas. Hence that disobedience to the laws and ordinances of segregation match historically with other movements such as of the Gandhi. In this letter, Martin Luther King described in a strong sense the emotions and feelings that afro Americans lived. He tries to show people the negative effect of segregation. Martin Luther King wrote about the emotional impact that represented among colored people live through such harsh conditions; For this, he puts concrete examples such as when you see the vast majority of your twenty million Negro brothers smothering in an airtight cage of poverty in the midst of an affluent society; when you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to your six year old daughter why she cannot go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her eyes when she is told that Funtown is closed to colored childrenà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ . Throughout the letter can be seen a progressive rise in tone when he writes words like injustice it does so with greater emphasis, showing which words are most sal ient in his letter and what concepts revolve around the racial problem experienced by African Americans. Furthermore, when write of the unfair treatment that afro Americans suffer when faced with the laws of the whites, notably Martin Luther King expresses his discomfort, thus giving more drama and excitement to his words; just as when he writes of women, children, and old, trying to sensitize people. Martin Luther King seeks to engage readers in the letter so that they feel the tension of the situations experienced by colored people, while asking them to keep fighting for their ideals. Another example is when he criticizes the police force because they mistreat colored people regardless of age or sex, and gives the example of when he was in jail and saw the injustice committed by the police. For this, he uses a highly detailed description of what he saw: I doubt that you would so quickly commend the policemen if you were to observe their ugly and inhumane treatment of Negroes here in the city jail; if you were to watch them push and curse old Negro women and young Negro girls; if you were to see them slap and kick old Negro men and young boys; if you were to observe them, as they did on two occasions, refuse to give us food because we wanted to sing our grace together. With this example, he tried to make people who did not go through this suffering understand the reasons of why colored people needed a fair law of no discrimination. For Dr. King, the differentiation between a just and an unjust law becomes of the moral and Christian ethics, so in the words of Dr. King A just law is a man made code That Squares with the moral law or the law of God. This is a religious tinge that highlights the thinking and action of the Civil Rights movement headed by Martin Luther King, and sets it apart from other movements such as the Muslim movement of Elijh Muhammad that it was a more radical movement. However, they agreed on the fact of the struggle for equal rights regardless of the color of the skin. In another hand, Martin Luther King also criticized the ethics and morals of the white churches and challenges them in welcoming African Americans to Their worship service on a no segregated basis. Even in his essay criticizes the moral character of the reverends of his time who had no respect for colored people. In his famous letter,Martin Luther King Jr claims to some clergymen, the little knowledge or having a lot of ignor ance about the movement for civil rights, regrets the ethics of a state seeking through silence suppression motion, and deplores the approach adopted by the religious authorities of Birmingham City; in the words of Martin Luther King, Birmingham is probably the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States, For this reason Martin Luther King Jr chose this city to undertake different types of peaceful actions in order to put an end to the prevailing racism. In conclusion, Martin Luther King in his Letter from Birmingham Jail confesses that he feels extremely disappointed with the white community that ignores the suffering of African Americans, who promise equality but after all cannot fulfill their promise, of the police force instead of enforcing the laws violate the laws, and the clergymen who do not enforce the divine laws. In Birmingham, they used a variety of methods of nonviolent direct action, including occupations of buildings, and local churches protests, but the city got a court order to suppress all these protests. With the conviction that the order was unconstitutional, the campaign challenged it and prepared for the detention of his supporters. Martin Luther King was chosen to be among those arrested. The congruence of his principles and arguments that demonstrated such as logic and emotion gave him the moral to ask to disobey a law that in a text can be fair but in practice never took place. The movement of Martin Luther K ing against the common practice of segregation in the southern United States, and specifically in the case of Birmingham Alabama, determined in part the future of the Civil Rights action in the United States, because it showed the injustice of which were subject the African American community. The civil disobedience and peaceful resistance practiced against racist and segregationist South in the United States; showed further innovation in the methods of resistance that allowed the start of a gradual change in the application of justice and, therefore, once again the construction of a truly democratic society, plural and equal to all Americans. Throughout his essay Martin Luther King tries to state the purpose of his letter that are injustice and inequality. I think he had a significant impact on his readers because he could combine two important points in this essay the logic and emotion. He used emotion giving examples of how white people treated colored people and used logic with evidence demonstrating the truth. The combinations of these two elements had as a result a clear and concise essay that can convince of their arguments to the majority of its readers.

Memo Advising Outline of Marketing Communication Mix :: essays research papers

To: Managing Director of new airline company. From: Marketing Consultant Date: xxxx Subject: Advising on the promotional and advertising campaign outlining the marketing communication mix. People no longer buy shoes to keep their feet warm. They buy shoes because of the way shoes make them feel- masculine, feminine, different, young, and glamorous. Buying shoes has become an emotional experience. Business is now selling excitement rather than shoes. Since the airline company is targeting business persons and others requesting a very personalized treatment it should focus on selling an experience of complete â€Å"V.I.P† treatment in sophistication rather than a simple means of traveling comfortably. The Marketing Communication Mix Another one of the 4P's is 'promotion'. This includes all of the tools available to the marketer for 'marketing communication'. As with Neil H.Borden's marketing mix, marketing communications has its own 'promotions mix.' Think of it like a cake mix, the basic ingredients are always the same. However if you vary the amounts of one of the ingredients, the final outcome is different. It is the same with promotions. You can 'integrate' different aspects of the promotions mix to deliver a unique campaign. The elements of the promotions mix are: 1. Personal selling 2. Sales promotion 3. Public relations 4. Direct marketing 5. Advertising Let us look at the individual components of the promotions mix in more detail. Remember all of the elements are 'integrated' to form a specific communications campaign. 1. Personal Selling Personal Selling is an effective way to manage personal customer relationships. The sales person acts on behalf of the organization. They tend to be well trained in the approaches and techniques of personal selling. However sales people are very expensive and should only be used where there is a genuine return on investment. For example salesmen are often used to sell cars or home improvements where the margin is high. 2. Sales Promotion Sales promotion tends to be thought of as being all promotions apart from advertising, personal selling, and public relations. For example the BOGOF promotion, or Buy One Get One Free. Others include couponing, money-off promotions, competitions, free accessories (such as free blades with a new razor), introductory offers (such as buy digital TV and get free installation), and so on. Each sales promotion should be carefully costed and compared with the next best alternative. 3. Public Relations (PR) Public Relations is defined as 'the deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organization and its publics' (Institute of Public Relations). It is relatively cheap, but certainly not cheap.

Mexican Immigrant Life and Americanization in the 1920’s Essay

In his book, Major Problems in Mexican American History, Zaragosa Vargas describes the Mexican Immigrant experience from 1917-1928. He begins by assessing the Protestant religious experience for a Mexican in the early 1920’s, and then describes Mexican life in both Colorado in 1924 and Chicago in 1928. After defending Mexican Immigrants in 1929, he includes an outline of an Americanization program, followed by an anecdote of a Mexican immigrant in the 1920’s. Vargas uses these documents to show the evolvement of Americanization of Mexicans from a community goal to a societal demand. Vargas begins with the Mexican Immigrant experience in the early 1920’s, and describes it mostly as a community project spearheaded by the Church and called for the aid of volunteers. The children learned and studied English in school, so the programs focused mostly on courses in English for the wives and mothers of the community. These English courses consisted mostly of vocabulary for familiar and most frequently seen objects. Sunday schools resulted from this process, and in turn made way for the development of night schools, clinics, an employment bureau, and a boys and girl’s club. In Colorado in 1924, Mexicans played a respectable role in society as not only a decent part of the population, but also the labor force. Spanish-Americans took a notable part in politics, and were involved in many occupations that included mostly agriculture, mining, and steel works. The recreation was also important to Spanish-American life in Colorado; the somewhat newly developed buildings were a source of community for many. Mexicans in Chicago in 1928, Vargas argues, lived a very different lifestyle and endured different hardships than the Mexicans in the Southwest. They were a much smaller part of the community, consisting of small, well-defined neighborhoods and several smaller less defined colonies. These Mexicans lived in the poorest houses in these neighborhoods, and most buildings guaranteed poor living conditions for these families. Employment only came certain times during the year when demand for labor was high, and it was the Mexicans who suffered most when certain industries reduced labor. In the words of Anita Edgar Jones, â€Å"They are the last to arrive and the first to be laid off† (Vargas). Mexican Life in Chicago during this time period served as a temporary solution for many families as they moved from recent arrivals to a more desirable place with better opportunity as they became more established and stabilized. Some neighborhoods were poorly organized for recreation, and even lacked Spanish-speaking employees at their community or recreation centers. Communities also lacked a Spanish-speaking priest, which is evidently different from early Americanization programs implemented in the Southwest in the early 1920’s. After addressing and defending most of the problems of Mexican Immigration in 1929, Vargas moves on to an outline of a typical Americanization program in 1931, where the Mexican Immigrant experience evolved from a community project that supported and encouraged Mexican assimilation, to a list of demands and requirements for Mexican and Spanish Americans to be acceptable members of society. Vargas uses these documents to show the progression of assimilation of Spanish Americans and Mexican immigrants into American society in the 1920’s. The life of a Mexican Immigrant during this time was very taxing, and these Americanization programs were used as a tool to attempt to create a society that operated under certain ideologies and values. As a result, this created an even stronger division between cultures, and prevented assimilation of the two groups. Being A Doctor Or A Psychologist - 1111 Words

â€Å"No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another† (Dickens). My goal in life is to help others, whether it be physically or mentally. Based on my goal I decided I could be a doctor or a psychologist. I am not infallible so even if I have good intentions someone would get hurt, if I chose to be a doctor. Therefore I chose the latter. â€Å"Psychologists study human processes and behavior by observing and interpreting how people relate to their social environments† (â€Å"Summary†). I would be in human services and my job title would be psychologist. People may think that choosing your career is as easy as choosing where to eat, but it takes a lot of careful consideration about so many factors such as environment, pay, future job markets, requirements, and simply a personal choice. A benefit of having this job is I could choose to work in a school setting, an office setting, or in my own home with clients. My hours would also differ, if I worked in a school I would typically be working 7am-4pm. Although if I chose to work out of the home my hours would be most afternoons and weekends, to better suit my clients with jobs. Furthermore I could live anywhere I choose because a small town school in Sweden would need just as much help as a big city corporate office in the United States of America.
